This weekend a number of our crews went to Bedford to race in the last head race of the season. The weather seemed favourable when we arrived but the increasingly stronger winds meant that the conditions deteriorated during the day. There were a total of 336 boats, divided into 8 divisions, completing a 2k course on the beautiful Great Ouse river. The narrow meandering river requires the bowman to skilfully navigate several bridges, go around islands and steer a few difficult bends. Despite a few problematic moments our crews all stayed dry and finished the course!
Congratulations go to the following DRC medal winners:
Katy Wilkinson Feller for winning the women’s IM1 single sculls race in 8 minutes and 28 seconds
Katy Wilkinson Feller and Annabel Everson for winning the women’s IM1 double in 8 minutes and 32 seconds
Lotte Tyndale Hardy and Albert Robson for winning the mixed IM3 double in 8 minutes and 27 seconds
Congratulations also go to our fastest boat down the course which was Oliver Wroe in his age 16 junior single who completed it in 8 minutes and 20 seconds, just 0.06 seconds after the winning boat. An excellent result.
A recently formed group of senior men raced ‘Jackson’, our newly named Wintech Quad in the morning and two of the crew members, Ian Page and Matthew Thompson, took part in the mens novice doubles in the afternoon. Despite being run into the side and loosing several valuable seconds they came in just 0.27 seconds after the winning boat. Another excellent result.
Full results will be displayed on the racing notice board in the club house or are available on the Bedford Rowing Club website, just click on any DRC blade image to get a consolidated list.
Our next event will be the Lea Regatta on the 24th April which will be the first side by side race of the season.
Well done to all Bedford crews and good luck to those going to Lea.
