Lea Rowing Club in London hosted their annual Spring Regatta on Sunday 24th April. A team of eight DRC rowers faced the early morning start with enthusiasm and a strong will to compete well over the day.
Up against 14 other clubs, the strong team spirit proved to be an important factor over the day, and Deben was by far the loudest and most supportive club along the riverbank.
Albert Robson took part in the very first race of the day, beating his IM3 singles opponent. While Phoebe Eaton and Scarlett Ayre both rowed well, they lost to their respective opponents in the J18 singles category. Annabel Everson and Phoebe Eaton then narrowly lost their J18 double Quarter Final, before Albert Robson lost his IM3 Semi Final. Fortunately, Albert then comfortably beat his competition in the Novice single sculls, sending him through to the final at the end of the day, which he won by one length.
Rachel Andvig also performed well in the Women’s Novice single sculls, winning the entire category.
Meanwhile, fresh (or rather, not so fresh) from their success at the Junior Interregional Regatta, Olly Wroe and Jamie Goodwyn raced each other in the J16 single sculls final, with Olly being the victor, before both of them comfortably won the J16 double event. Lotte Tyndale-Hardy and Scarlett Ayre both rowed well in their J18 double Semi Final, but the competition was just too strong for them.
In total, Deben won four events overall out of five finals, and every member left extremely pleased with their performance.
