Katy Wilkinson-Feller (19) secured another great win on 14 May when she represented DRC at Nottingham City Regatta. Taking place at the Holme Pierrepont National Watersports Centre, the weather was sunny and the conditions perfect, with the additional help of a tail wind, surprising for Nottingham.
Katy’s first race was a straight final in a senior category, one category above her current ranking. With clubs from London and Nottingham in the field, it was an exciting race. Katy was second over the first 500m and managed to push through to finish in 7:59.16, an overall win of 16 seconds.
With the wind picking up through the afternoon, the conditions were becoming slightly choppier especially towards the finish. But Katy is used to rowing in trying conditions, training on the Deben in Woodbridge. The next race was an IM1 straight final where Katy managed to gain a lead from the start, and pulled away to win with a time of 7:55.18 over the 2k distance, ahead of her nearest rival by 20 seconds!
