The second ‘Wilford Single Sculls’ Race' enjoyed perfect conditions. The water was calm, the tide behaved as predicted, the air was mild and the start began within ten seconds of the posted time of 10am.
The competitors steered well against the last of the flooding tide and all crossed the finish line without incident.
Many thanks to the officers, marshalls and boat drivers who worked together to make the day a success.
The winner of the Ladies Trophy was Phoebe Eaton with a time of 14 minutes and 33 seconds. Second was Rachel Andvig with a time of 14 minutes and 35 seconds.
The winner of the Men’s Trophy was Oliver Wroe (for the second time) with a time of 12 minutes and 19 seconds. Second was Jamie Goodwyn with a time of 12 minutes and 29 seconds.
The few seconds between winners and runners up indicates close competition, the importance of good steering and ‘knowing the river’.
The times were a little slower than last year as there was a stronger incoming tidal stream until 11am.
